Controlled Atmosphere Storage of Loquat Fruits

‘Gold Nugget’ loquats (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) were stored in 3% O2 + 1% CO2; 3% O2 + 2% CO2 or 3% O2 + 3% CO2 at OEC with 90% relative humidity for 2 months. Weight loss, flesh firmness, titratable acidity, soluble solids, skin colour, chilling injury and amount of decayed fruits were evaluated durign storage. Loquat fruits stored at 3% O2 and 2% CO2 retained a better taste and flavour than other CA treatments and normal atmosphere storage (control fruit). CA-storage reduced weight loss and chilling injury. Loquats stored in CA retaomed a higher content of titratable acids and soluble solids.
