A method of analysis for nivalenol, deoxynivalenol (DON), 3- and 15-DON, diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS), neosolaniol, T-2 tetraol, T-2 and HT-2 toxins, ZEA and zearalenols, and another method for determination of FB1 are described and were applied to cultures of Fusarium isolated from bananas. The first method involves extraction with methanol-1% aqueous sodium chloride, cleanup of extracts by partition with hexane and dichloromethane, additional solid reverse phase cleanup and analysis of two eluates by both HPLC with UV and capillary GC. The method for FB1 involves extraction with aqueous methanol, concentration, cleanup with water and methanol on Amberlite XAD-2 column, formation of a fluorescent 4-fluoro-7-nitrobenzofurazan derivative and analysis by HPLC with fluorescence detection. Both procedures give good limits of detection and recoveries.
