Improved direct competitive enzyme – linked immunosorbent assay for cyclopiazonic acid in corn, peanuts and mixed feed.

An improved direct competitive ELISA (dc – ELISA) was developed for theanalysis of cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) in corn, peanuts and mixed feed. New approaches were used for the preparation of enzyme markers and one involving coupling CPA – bovine serum albumin conjugate to horseradish peroxidase using glutaraldehyde was more effective and subsequently used for the analysis of CPA in these products. The detection limits for CPA in corn, mixed feed and peanuts were estimatedto be around 100, 300 and 600 mg/kg, respectively and the mean analytical recoveries (200 – 5000 mg/kg range) were 97.6, 92, and 93%, respectively.
