Maize containing foods obtained from retail stores in The Netherlands were analysed for FB1 contamination. Of 78 samples, 36% were contaminated with FB1 at up to 1430mg/kg. Forty six percent of the minimally treated maize samples (maize for bread production, maize for popcorn, maize flour and polenta) were contaminated with FB1 at up to 380mg/kg. Twenty six percent of the maize containing processed foods (tostada, canned maize, maize starch, maize bread, popped maize, flour mixes, maize chips and cornflakes) were contaminated with FB1 at up to 1430mg/kg.
