Mycophenolic acid, a metabolite of penicillium roguefoeti, was detected in 74 of 233 grass and maize silage samples collected in Bavaria, Germany.Levels ranged from 20 to 35,000 (mean 1,400) mg/kg. Mycophenolic acid has well-known immunosuppressive properties and might cause problems if contaminated silage is fed to livestock.
