Ochratoxin A in coffee, tea and beer.

A total of 357 samples of coffee,161 samples of tea and 318 samples of beer were assayed for OA.  About 50% of the samples of roated and ground coffee,with and with out caffeine, contained OA at concentrations of 0.3-6.3 mg/kg.  Of instant coffee samples with caffeine, about 90% contained OA in the range 0.3-9.47 mg/kg.  A lower level was found in decaffeinated instant coffee.  No toxin was found in black or fruit tea, but OA was found in 3% of green tea, 9% of herb ta and 42% of childrens tea samples on a herb basis. Of pils, Export, Weized and Starkbeer samples analysed,  70-80% contained OA at concentrations of 0.01-0.29 mg/L.
