Occurrence and amounts of some Fusarium toxins in Finnish cereal samples in 1998.

The amounts of Fuserium toxins in Finnish cereals, particularly wheat intended for human consumption, were determined. Although the growing season of 1998 was very rainy, cool and favorable for fungi production, the amounts of Fusarium toxins in the sample were low. Among 47 cereal samples the mean concentrations of DON, 3 – acetylDon, nivalemol, HT-2 toxin ZEA in contaminated samples were 60,30,42,43 and 5 mg/kg, respectively. T-2 toxin was detected only only once (23 mg/kg) and fusarenon-X and diacetoxyscripenol were not detected. However, 85% of the analysed cereal samples were contaminated with Fusarium toxins.
