The use of surfactant and chlorine in eliminating the black ants on mangoesteen fruits

Black ants harboring the surface and hiding under the sepals of mangosteen fruits often lead to rejection of the fruits for export. Therefore, a controlled measure of the ants is very important to increase the percentage of exportable fruits.

The aim of this research was to find a method for eliminating the black ants harboring the fruits. A surfactant based agricull1Jral chemical (APSA 800 WSC) and chlorine (NaOCl) with different concentrations in their combinations had been applied to eliminate the ants. The result indicated that the surfactant with concentration of 100 ppm solely or without chlorine had successfully eliminated the ants. The surfactant and chlorine applied on the fruits, in this experiment, did not significantly affect the internal and external physical quality of the fruits.
