It is illegal to color navel orange fruit even though some packinghouses are still using Citrus Red Dye No.2 from FMC. The major postharvest diseases caused by fungal pathogens are Penicillium digitatum Sacc., P. ItalicumWehmer, rind disorder is also a big problem. Postharvest fungicides currently used are TBZ and Imazalil (these two usually for export), carbendazim (most for domestic market). 2,4-D are commonly used to keep the button green. Shellac- based waxes are preferred due to their excellent brightness. Impressive growth in use of corrugated boxes for shipping navel fruit has been achieved.
