Quality Fruit in Clones of Rambután (Nephelium lappaceum L.) in Mexico
The objective was to determine the quality characteristics of six clones of rambután selected by the INEFAP in the Mexican tropic. This work carried out in the Palmar Experimental Station (INIFAP) located in the southwest of Veracruz, Mexico; the clones evaluated were 2, 15, 19, 40, 42 and 51, harvested in September, 2007 if plants of six years old; the experimental design was completely at random. Statistically, the results showed that the clone 15 was better in weight and thickness of skin and weight of seed, with 19.4% of total soluble solid, and acidity of 1.95 mg/100ml, with good detachment of aril and good taste. The clone 40 had a round form and the clone 2 was smoothed; the clone 42 and 51 were more translucent; the clone 2 and 42 presented major concentration of citric acid that the clone 15 and the clones 19 and 46 presented major life of shelf. The clones 15 and 19 presented good detachment of the aril, but the clone 19 had less taste. In conclusion, the clone 15 was the best, witch presented quality standards for the market.
