Storage potentials of new sweet cherry varieties appear to be increasingly important for Turkeys future trends of export expectations.
This study refers to the research efforts carried out on the following varieties, 0900 Ziraat, Newmoon, Regina, Ferbolus Verdel, Octavia, Sweet Heart, Kordia, Rainer and Techlovan.
Several laboratory analyses were employed to determine the quality criteria related to storage potentials of the varieties which kept at 0°C and 85-90% relative humidity (RH) under normal atmosphere (NA) conditions.
The experiment was set up according to Randomized Block Design with 3 replications, taking samples by weekly intervals and determining the loss of quality by such methods as weight loss, flesh firmness, respiration rate, ethylene production, flavor, color change, stem resistance, soluble solids, titratable acidity and pH as well as general quality appearance visually. Samples were transferred to 20°C room at 70-75 % relative humidity and left there for 3 days for shelf life. Subsequently final quality evaluations were concluded by determining changes in flavor, flesh firmness, stem resistance, soluble solids, titratable acidity and pH.
