The post harvest development of peteca rind pitting in 'Meyer' lemons [Citrus meyeri (Y.) Tan] was aggravated by citrus wax application and fruit brushing. Increasing brushing time increased the incidence of the disorder. Polyethylene-based waxes induced more peteca than carnauba-based wax formulations. Ethylene degreening and/or storage before waxing decreased fruit susceptibility, while application of the fungicide guazatine did not increase peteca incidence. Storage between 10 and 25C had no effect on injury levels.
