Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), eggs were immersed in hot water (41-43 degrees C) to determine the tolerance of egg stages to heat treatment. Dinitrophenol or rotenone acted synergistically to increase mortality caused by hot water. Mortality and the thermal death kinetic parameters changed when the eggs were immersed in hot water with reduced oxygen. Mortality was dependent on the age of the eggs.
