บทคัดย่อ

VARIABILITY OF (-)-CALANOLIDE B IN CALOPHYLLUM TEYSMANNII VARIETAS INOPHYLLOIDE (CLUSIACEAE).

A study exploring the factors responsible for the variability of yields of the anti-HIV pyranocoumarin, (–)-calanolide B, in  Calophyllum teysmannii var. inophylloide in Sarawak, Malaysia, has combined field surveys with laboratory (HPLC) analysis to generate a comprehensive understanding of the tree.  Genetic control of compound production in the trees is implicated as a major factor of variability between individuals, and has led to inferences in regard to an optimal individual size and the phenologically related cycles of compound production.  Latex is the highest yielding plant part of C.  teysmannii var.  inophylloide  with a mean yield of 66% w/w.  An analysis of one-year postharvest treatments of latex demonstrated that the maximal yields may be achieved by storage of raw latex at ambient temperature.
