Four of 5 fungal species isolated from pineapple fruit with rot symptoms collected from supermarkets in Santiago, Chile, were pathogenic: Ceratocystis paradoxa (the most virulent species); Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans (present in most samples); Cladosporium herbarum; and F. solani. Penicillium glabrum was also isolated but did not produce rot on inoculated fruit.
