Fungicides developed since 1965, mainly benzimidazole fungicides (thiabendazole, benomyl and carbendazim) and sterol inhibitors (imazalil, prochloraz and propiconazole) and their control of anthracnose and stem-end rot on citrus, banana, mango, pawpaw, pineapple and avocado are discussed. Due to the intensive use of fungicides on citrus fruits, tolerance to all organic fungicides used commercially has developed. Imazalil-tolerant biotypes are widely known in California but have not been detected in Florida, USA. Benzimidazole-tolerant biotypes of Botryodiplodia and Colletotrichum have been recognized in harvested mangos and bananas treated preharvest with this group of fungicides. This paper was presented at the Symposium on tropical fruit in international trade held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, on Jun. 4-9, 1989.
