A simplified procedure is described for the estimation of thiabendazole in pallet box drenchers. The method is reported to be useful for concn of between 200 and 1800 p.p.m. but may be effective for higher concn if suspensions are diluted with water prior to use. The method involves the addition of a sample of fungicide and sodium hydroxide to a screw top culture tube containing a chlorinated hydrocarbon solution of cupric acetate and 1-dimethyl-amino-2-propanol (several other chlorinated hydrocarbons can be used). The mixture is then shaken and allowed to stand while the phases separate. The absorbance of the chlorinated hydrocarbon layer is then read on a portable colorimeter. It is reported that the total time from sampling to result can be <10 minutes.
