Rice is an important crop of Andhra Pradesh, India. This article examines the marketing behaviour of a sample of 320 farmers, selected from 10 Revenue Mandals in Warangal district. Personal interviews reveal that most farmers market their paddy in the postharvest period, even though it is a time of low prices for rice. This behaviour reflects the farmers' desperate need for financial resources. Farmers who market at a later stage tend to belong to a higher income bracket which allows them to choose their time of sale.
