Determination of labour requirements for potato harvesting and transport.

A mathematical model of potato harvesting was developed. It includes 6 variants for feeding the potatoes from the harvester into the transport vehicle. On the basis of this model, specific functions were derived to determine labour requirements for harvesting, transport and postharvest treatment of potatoes. The functions reflect the relationship between labour requirements and 10 controlled factors, related to the potato harvester and working conditions. These specific functions were optimized with respect to labour requirements by using nonlinear programming. As a result of a graphical study, conclusions were drawn as to the most suitable variants for separation of potato-like foreign bodies that enter the manually-controlled conveyor of the potato harvester.
