Advice to farmers on conservation of grains after harvest: the demand for extension staff training and proposals for extension programmes for small-scale farmers.

Food security can be improved by promoting better grain conservation techniques which are, largely, already available. This paper considers the demand for information on the conservation of grains after harvest in the Southern Africa Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) Region; the consequent demand for training by extension staff to service the farmers' needs; and some extension strategies considered likely to be suitable and cost effective for the small-scale farmer.
