Laboratory studies carried out at 26 deg C and 70% RH showed that an irradiation dose of 75 Gy could provide quarantine security against eggs and larvae of Dacus tryoni [Bactrocera tryoni] in cherries by breaking the life cycle of the tephritid at adult eclosion. Third-instar larvae were the least susceptible to gamma irradiation. The quality of cherry drupes of three cultivars (Ron's Seedling, American Bing, Lambert) was not affected by irradiation doses of 300 - 1000 Gy.
