The postharvest application of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T), maleic hydrazide and calcium nitrate reduced weight loss in rotting mango fruits. 2,4,5-T (1000 p.p.m.) caused the greatest reduction in weight loss. Rooting and weight loss increased during prolonged storage and the firmness of the fruit decreased as the length of storage period increased. However, loss of fruit firmness was slower in chemically treated fruits. The most effective postharvest treatment was 2% calcium nitrate.
