Benomyl, prochloraz and thiophanate-methyl (as Topsin M) were evaluated at different rates for control of 4 common postharvest diseases (crown rot, pedicel rot, anthracnose and blossom-end rot) of banana cv. Naine in Mauritius. Prior to fungicidal treatments, the fruits were subjected to a ripening treatment in 500 p.p.m. of Ethrel (ethephon) at pH 8. Prochloraz (1, 1.75 and 2.5 ml a.i./litre) and thiophanate-methyl (0.7, 0.88 and 1 ml/1itre) gave control efficiency ranging from 89.6 to 100% against pedicel rot, anthracnose and blossom-end rot. All 3 concn of benomyl used (100, 300 and 500 mg/litre) gave similar results against pedicel rot and anthracnose, however, only the highest concn gave comparable results to prochloraz and thiophanate-methyl against blossom-end rot. Control efficiency of approx. 70% was obtained against crown rot with only the highest concn of the 3 fungicides tested.
