Codiaeum variegatum cv. Bravo, Cordyline terminalis [C. fruticosa] cv. Red Edge, Howea [Howeia] forsteriana, Maranta leuconeura cultivars Fascinator and Kerchoveana, Mascarena verschaffeltii [Hyophorbe verschaffeltii], Philodendron selloum [P. bipinnatifidum], Schefflera actinophylla, S. arboricola cultivars Compacta and Gold Capella and Yucca aloifolia plants were stored in pots or bare-rooted at 15 deg C, 85% RH in darkness for 7, 14 or 21 days to simulate shipping conditions. The bare-rooted plants were potted after storage. All plants were then placed in simulated interior conditions of 20 deg , 60% RH and a light intensity of 15 micro E m-2 s-1 for 12 h daily. Control plants were transferred directly from the greenhouse to interior conditions. Plant condition was assessed before storage, 1 day after the end of storage and after 4 weeks in interior conditions. Bare-rooted H. forsteriana, S. actinophylla, S. arboricola, M. verschaffeltii and Y. aloifolia plants withstood 21 days' storage with out serious loss of plant quality. Bare-rooted P. selloum and M. leuconeura plants tolerated simulated shipping for 14 and 7 days, respectively. Bare-rooted C. variegatum and C. terminalis plants could not tolerate even 7 days' simulated shipping. Potted plants generally tolerated longer storage than bare-rooted plants.
