บทคัดย่อ

A perspective on postharvest physiology and biochemistry.

Key scientific papers from each of the last 4 decades are reviewed to chart the progress of research on postharvest biology since 1950. Reasons for the waxing and waning of interest in certain research topics over this period are discussed. Three key areas for future research are suggested: the metabolic interconnection between ethylene production, polyamine synthesis and DNA methylation via the common precursor, S-adenosylmethionine; the application of molecular biotechnology; and investigation of maintenance metabolism as a basic function of living cells.
