บทคัดย่อ

Effects of low temperatures on ornamental plants.

The beneficial effects of low temperature on harvested ornamentals are discussed, with reference to reductions in metabolic rate, water loss, loss of respirable substrate, disease incidence and undesirable growth and development. The deleterious effects of low temperature, such as chilling and freezing injury, are also considered. Selection of flowers from tropical and subtropical regions, and alteration of the typical pattern of coordinated senescence at the molecular level in species from Mediterranean regions, may obviate the need for the use of refrigeration and chemical adjuvants.
