บทคัดย่อ

Date production in Central Australia. An agronomic and economic evaluation.

This bulletin presents technical advice on growing dates and evaluates the profitability of establishing a plantation in the Northern Territory. The 3 sections are subdivided as follows: (A) Climatic and agronomic aspects: soils; climate; the date palm; cultivars; plantation establishment; irrigation; nutrition; weeds, pests and diseases; pollination and bunch management; and harvesting and postharvest care. (B) Industry overview: the commercial potential for Australian dates. (C) Economic analysis: analysis criteria; costs; returns; and results. There are also 12 appendix tables and a map showing the ecologically favourable areas in Australia for date cultivation.
