The major postharvest diseases of avocados in New Zealand were identified as anthracnose (associated with Colletotrichum spp.) and stem-end rots (associated with Botryosphaeria spp. and Phomopsis spp.). Several Fusarium spp. have also been isolated from fruit rots. Scab (caused by Sphaceloma perseae) is recorded for the first time on avocados in New Zealand.
