Avocado fruit quality as influenced by preharvest cultural practices. Progress report.

Preliminary results are presented from trials on the influence on postharvest fruit quality of (1) irrigation (80, 100 or 120% ETc) + N fertilizer (0, 1.5 or 3.0 lb N/tree), and (2) N fertilizer (0, 2 or 4 lb N/tree). Findings indicate that N fertilizer treatments may influence both the nutrient and the fatty acid composition of the fruits, but no significant effect on storage quality has been observed. Irrigation management may influence storage quality in terms of the amount of internal breakdown following long-term storage.
