Studies on the postharvest physiology of some important peach cultivars. I. Red Globe.

In 2 years of trials with cv. Red Globe [Redglobe] fruits grown in the Yalova and Bursa regions, physiological changes during the harvest period, ripening characteristics, and storage (0-1 deg C) behaviour were determined. Parameters of fruit size, ground colour, flesh firmness, soluble solids content, a combination of flesh firmness and soluble solids content, ripening period, titratable acidity and respiratory climacteric were considered. Of these, the combination of flesh firmness and soluble solids content proved the most reliable parameter by which to determine harvest maturity. Storage experiments indicated that Red Globe does not store satisfactorily for long periods; storage life was limited by weight loss and the physiological disorder mealy breakdown.
