Information and practical advice on Averrhoa carambola cultivation is presented in 12 chapters covering history and area of origin; economic importance, nutritive value and uses; botany and physiology; genetics and cultivars; ecology; propagation; planting; fertilizers; irrigation; other cultural techniques (weed control, cover crops, cold protection, pruning, flower and fruit thinning, and fruit covers); harvesting to consumption (harvesting, packing, storage, transport, processing and yields); and pests, diseases and non-pathogenic disorders, including fruit flies (Anastrepha suspensa, Ceratitis capitata and various Dacus spp.), field fungi (Cercospora averrhoae, Rhizopus and others), storage fungi (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] and others), and chilling injury.
