บทคัดย่อ

Changes in peroxidases associated with radiation-induced sprout inhibition in garlic (Allium sativum L.).

The effects of treatment of post-dormant (120 days postharvest) garlic bulbs (cv. Colorado) with 10 Gy 60Co gamma -rays were studied. Bulbs were stored in darkness at 19 plus or minus 1 deg C and 42 plus or minus 2% RH for up to 100 days after irradiation. Inner sprouts were removed from the cloves 0, 6, 12, 25, 50 and 100 days after irradiation and weighed as the criterion for inner sprout growth, and changes in peroxidase activity and soluble proteins were analysed. Sprout growth inhibition began 25 days post-irradiation and this coincided with a marked increase in peroxidase activity in the irradiated inner sprout. Soluble proteins and protein patterns were not affected by irradiation.
