Storage life was studied in Alcobaca, normal genotypes, hybrids between normal genotypes and the mutants Alcobaca, nor and rin, and hybrids between Alcobaca and the mutants nor, rin and rin1. Alcobaca was superior to normal types in storage life but was exceeded in this respect by the nor mutant. The greatest increase in storage life was seen in hybrids of nor with normal genotypes, but the berries had a pale red colour. The hybrids between Alcobaca and normal types were superior to the normal types in storage life and had a normal red colour. The hybrids between Alcobaca and the rin and rin1 mutants also had a longer storage life than normal types, and had a normal red berry colour. Hybrids between Alcobaca and nor had a long storage life and a mutant phenotype with a fruit coloration intermediate between that of the parents.
