Ripening of Golden Delicious apples at 5 deg and 15 deg C: effect of postharvest ethylene and daminozide treatments.

Golden Delicious apples were dipped 12 h after harvest in 4250 p.p.m. daminozide and then exposed to 1 p.p.m. ethylene or to ethylene-free air for 48 h at 15 deg C. Other fruits were exposed to ethylene before being dipped in daminozide or received neither growth regulator treatment. In fruits subsequently held in aerated chambers at either 5 deg or 15 deg , the onset of rapid ethylene production was delayed only by daminozide applied immediately after harvest. It was advanced by storage at 5 deg and by the 48-h ethylene treatment.
