บทคัดย่อ

Grass seed production in the absence of open-field burning.

Limitations to open-field burning of crop residue after grass seed harvest in the Pacific Northwest of USA have provided new incentives for researching alternative techniques of residue removal and postharvest management. The effectiveness of techniques such as baling and removing, flail-chopping stubble, crew cutting and propane burning are discussed, but as yet finding a single alternative method which provides all the benefits achieved by burning crop residue has proved elusive. The absence of open-field burning will necessitate changes to seed crop management and the introduction of new equipment. Such changes are briefly discussed.
