Samples of red, green, yellow and orange capsicum fruits in the quality classes 1-super and 1-2 were taken at the auctions from early Apr. to the end of Oct. and held in a chamber at 16 deg C (18 deg in the summer); quality assessments were made initially and after 4 and 7 days. Stalk and calyx damage was higher (up to 47% of samples) in green fruits. The initial percentages of damaged samples were 63, 72, 52 and 55%, respectively, for red, orange, green and yellow fruits, respectively. Skin cracking was found on 20% of orange and yellow fruits, and on 9% of red fruits; green fruits were not affected. Insect damage [unspecified] was highest (27%) on red fruits, the incidence increasing to 36% of samples after 7 days.
