The development of organized rural markets in the tribal economy is important to ensure a reasonable price for the products sold by the tribal communities, and therefore improve their standard of living. In this context, an organized rural market at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, popularly known as Tawang LAMPS, has proved to be effective and efficient in marketing, distribution, credit and postharvest services. The organization of Tawang LAMPS is discussed, with implications for the introduction of similar organized markets in the rest of the north-eastern region.
