บทคัดย่อ

Production of ginseng (Panax ginseng) in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

Ginseng [Panax pseudoginseng] has a very high market value (its export price in 1989 reached Yen 11 000/600 g DW), but it is difficult to cultivate. Its economic importance, taxonomy, geographical distribution, areas of production, and soil and climatic requirements are briefly outlined, followed by a description of cultural practices (propagation, land preparation, seed sowing, shade regulation, irrigation, fertilization, crop protection, harvesting and postharvest handling) used in Nagano Prefecture, based on a study tour to the area made during 9-12 Sep. 1990. The various ginseng products and the marketing system in Nagano are described.
