Postharvest handling of Alstroemeria.

Handling experiments were conducted on Alstroemeria cv. Rosello #2 flowers to investigate problems of leaf yellowing reported by a grower exporting from Hawaii to the continental USA. Flowers were packed for 2 or 3 d at 22 deg C or not packed. The effects of Oasis floral preservative (OFP), Chrysal SVB-II + OFP, OFP + GA3 or Chrysal SVB-II + OFP + GA3 on non-packed flowers and of IAA, zeatin riboside, GA3, kinetin, BA, OFP, OFP + GA3, Chrysal, or Chrysal SVB-II [concentrations specified] added to the vase water on flowers packed for 2 d were assessed. OFP + GA3 had the best effect on delaying leaf yellowing in packed and non-packed flowers. Packing the flowers for 2 d shortened the vase life and accelerated leaf yellowing.
