บทคัดย่อ

Rambutan industry in the Northern Territory - current status, research and development emphasis.

The increasing commercial importance of rambutans in the Northern Territory of Australia is discussed. Environmental (climate, soil), physiological (flowering) and pest (birds, ants [Formicidae], mealybugs [Pseudococcidae] and scale insects (Coccidae)) problems are described. The main areas of research directed to solving these problems are shelterbelt establishment, improvements in irrigation scheduling and application, physical and chemical methods of bird and pest control, and postharvest technology.
