Control of peach rots by pre- and post-harvest treatments.

In Santa Catarina, Brazil, the main losses of peaches are caused by rot diseases (Monilinia sp.) and by fruit flies. In 1990, sprays with benomyl (as Benlate), copper oxychloride (as Fungitoxin), fenthion (as Lebaycid), a toxic bait with Malatol [malathion] and calcium chloride (CaCl2) during vegetative growth were tested for the control of fruit rot on peach cv. Cai. Application of CaCl2 reduced fruit rot. Iprodione (as Rovral) was effective against postharvest diseases caused by Monilinia sp., Penicillium sp. and Fusarium sp., particularly when CaCl2 was applied before harvest.
