During a 12-month survey between Nov. 1988 and Oct. 1989, 6 disorders (oversize crown, sunscald, rodent damage, blackheart, deformed fruit and basal fruit cracking) and 5 diseases were recorded on harvested Victoria pineapples. Incidence of the diseases was highest for black soft rot (Ceratocystis paradoxa, 9.7-97.1%) and internal black spot (usually Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] var. subglutinans), (23.6-90.1%); less important were basal rot (C. paradoxa), fruit surface brown speck (F. pallidoroseum) and yeast rot (Saccharomyces sp.).
