Walnuts. Initial results of EC technological studies.

Improved drying techniques, automation of in-shell walnut grading, automation of shelling and storage of walnuts are being studied by the Centre Technique Interprofessionnel des Fruits et Legumes, France. A drying process for Franquette walnuts is presented and a method of eliminating walnuts with internal defects during sorting using x radiation is outlined. Equipment for cracking and shelling walnuts is being studied, as are ways of optimizing the storage conditions of fresh and dried walnuts.
