บทคัดย่อ

Studies on the treatment of walnuts for obtaining good results.

Three-year trials were carried out in a commercial orchard with the cultivars Sibesel, Novaci, De Marculesti, Orastie and De Tg. Jiu to determine the optimum harvest date, methods of removing the pericarp, treatment of nuts, and storage. The optimum harvest date was cultivar-related but occurred generally at the end of Sep. Pericarp was best removed by arranging the nuts in a 20-cm-thick layer and soaking them in water for 48 h. The best results with blanching of nuts were obtained using 10 parts of solution A, consisting of 1 litre calcium hypochlorite + 1 litre sodium carbonate and 1 part of solution B, consisting of 100 ml sulphuric acid + 20 litres water, with an immersion time of 15 minutes. After this treatment the nuts were immediately washed in running water for 4-5 minutes. The nuts were stored successfully for 12-17 months in a ventilated store at 8-10 deg C and 60-65% RH.
