Analysis of the postharvest system indicated that losses and labour inefficiencies are mainly due to lack of appropriate tools and equipment. A crop and food processing centre was designed for a hamlet consisting of 20 family units. This represents a total processing requirement of 100 kg/day involving pounding, polishing, winnowing, grinding and cooking of a variety of grain crops. The centre is equipped with a package of improved postharvest equipment which consists of in-field transport, harvesting gadget, thresher, drying and threshing work area, improved storage facility and grinder. The equipment is designed for multi-crop application.
