The steady growth of the business and industrial sectors in Taiwan has led to a shortage of labour in agriculture. The Taiwan government has supported agricultural mechanization by initiating various projects; specific areas of mechanization are discussed, including: mechanization of rice cultivation; seed drills; vegetable transplanters; maize, peanut, napier grass and soybean harvesters. Seedling production, pesticide application, postharvest processing and greenhouse cultivation are highlighted as areas which have been automated.
