The ED50 values of 415 isolates of P. digitatum and P. italicum with reduced sensitivity to thiabendazole (TBZ), benomyl (BEN) and/or imazalil (IM) were assessed. The isolates were collected from decayed grapefruit, lemons, mandarins (C. reticulata) and oranges from 14 geographical origins. The isolates were cultured on potato dextrose agar containing yeast extract and amended with a series of fungicide concn. The mean ED50 values of P. digitatum were 15.8 mg/litre for TBZ, 6.3 mg/litre for BEN and 0.88 mg/litre for IM. Isolates which were tolerant of both IM and benzimidazole fungicides were significantly more sensitive to TBZ and/or BEN than isolates tolerant of the benzimidazoles only. The mean ED50 values of P. italicum were 22.6 mg/litre for TBZ and 4.7 mg/litre for BEN. The tolerance levels of green and blue mould to the benzimidazoles were related to their geographical origins.
