A simple pea vining machine was designed and developed as a component of a farm level postharvest pea processing system. The vining machine consists of a beating drum and an inclined shaker as a separation system. Tests conducted on the machine indicated that the best performance was achieved at a drum speed of 200 rev/min and a concave clearance of 7 mm. At these settings the vining capacity, vining efficiency and percentage pea damage were 4kg/h, 99% and 2%, respectively. The optimum setting for the separation mechanism was 20 degrees which gave 97% separating efficiency and 98% seed removal after inclined shaking.
