The high turnover of Lilium varieties in the Netherlands means that assessment of cultivar characteristics at an early stage is essential. Cut flowers of various recently-registered cultivars were subjected to quality assessments and tests. The quality aspects considered were the cluster (including the number and uprightness of buds and blasting occurrence), the stem (including its firmness, length and strength), the leaf (including quantity, position and sensitivity to scorching) and the postharvest keeping quality (including vase life). The results are discussed and some are tabulated.
