Cut A. hybrida flowers (cultivars Catalina, Ines, Juanita, Rosita and Yellow King) were treated for 24 h with water (controls), Chrysal AVB, Chrysal SVB, Chrysal AVB + SVB or with a solution of 100 mg 8-hydroxyquinoline citrate + 10 g sucrose + 20 mg GA3/litre (HQC + S + GA). In all cultivars, the longest inflorescence vase life occurred in the HQC + S + GA treatment (17.8-21.0 days, compared with 14.2-16.6 days in controls), usually followed by the Chrysal AVB + SVB treatment. These 2 treatments completely inhibited foliar yellowing. The HQC + S + GA treatment also resulted in the longest petals in each cultivar.
